Are sat navs as dangerous as mobile phones while driving?

Are sat navs as dangerous as mobile phones while driving?
I just find them so distracting, I spend more time looking at the sat nav than the road sometimes.

We have one and it has caused a few arguments to say the least, normally I would pull off a sheet from either AA or RAC routeplanner site and never had much problem. However, the Sat Nav voice is very distracting and my partner was always saying he couldnt hear it and by the time I had sorted it out either by looking or turning up the volume, we would probably have gone wrong. It has also sent us wrong a few times. I found I was getting quite stressed out before we arrived at our destination. Now, I get the usual Routeplanner sheet and only use the Sat Nav when we have reached the town or village we are heading to, where we have found it to be invaluable, especially in the dark and unlit roads.
